Karavali Souharda Sangarsha Samithi demands release of Soorinje

Mangalore, Nov 10, 2012: The Karavali Souharda Sangarsha Samithi condemned the arrest of Kasturi TV channel reporter Naveen Soorinje in connection with the home stay attack of July 28.

B. Ramanath Rai, Congress leader and MLA, addressed the press at Hotel Woodlands today and said that Naveen and the cameraman were arrested because they witnessed Hindu fundamentalist groups attacking girls and stripping them at the birthday party. The BJP is playing a new arrest game to suppress evidence, he alleged.

Stating that the arrest is nothing but assassination of the freedom of the press, B. Madhava, district secretary of the CPI (M), urged the police to release Soorinje immediately and withdraw the cases registered against him.

He also announced that the committee will protest in front of the DC’s office on Nov 13, Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Shashiraj Shetty, P. V. Mohan, Ivan D’Souza, T. K. Sudhir, Yadav Shetty, Muneer Katipalla, and many others were present.
