Kapu: Four held after clash between private bus crews over timing dispute

Udupi, Jul 28, 2026: Two drivers and two conductors of private buses were taken into police custody after they allegedly assaulted each other and created a public disturbance over a dispute related to bus timings near the New Marigudi underpass bus stop in Kapu on Monday morning.

According to police, the altercation involved the crew members of two private buses, including an Anand bus. The dispute over bus timings reportedly escalated into a physical fight, with the drivers and conductors exchanging blows and hurling abuses at each other in a public place.

Sources said the argument had begun earlier at Udyavara over the bus timings and intensified when the buses reached Kapu. Following the clash, both parties accused each other of provoking the incident. The buses were allegedly parked across the service road, disrupting traffic for nearly 15 minutes and causing inconvenience to commuters. Alerted by local residents, Kapu police rushed to the spot, brought the situation under control, and escorted both buses to the police station for further inquiry. Police have taken into custody the two drivers, Ramesh and Abhishek, along with the conductors, Vijay Kumar and Harish B. Hegde, in connection with the incident. Both buses have also been seized, and further investigation is underway.
