
Kapu, Jan 23, 2026: A fire accidentally broke out in a vacant paddy field near the National Highway 66 bridge in Kapu on January 22.
The blaze erupted in the Dandatheertha ward area under the municipal limits and quickly spread to the surrounding area. Flames rising from the field posed a threat to three to four nearby houses, triggering panic among local residents.
Municipal councillor Shobha Bangera, along with local residents, attempted to douse the fire and informed the Udupi Fire and Emergency Services.
A fire brigade team from the Udupi Fire Station, led by Assistant Officer Ravindra, rushed to the spot and successfully brought the fire under control after nearly two hours of continuous effort.
As the fire occurred in a vacant paddy field, no major property damage was reported. However, three to four nearby hoardings were damaged in the incident.
