Mangalore, Dec 1, 2011: The widely acclaimed annual Kadri Kambala will be held on the afternoon of Dec 4 in the presence of Yogeeshwar Mutt Seer Rajayogi Shri Sandhyanathji.
Addressing reporters at a press conference held on Nov 30 Wednesday, Kadri Kamabala Samithi President B. Nagaraj Shetty said that various competitions have been arranged for the morning of Dec 4.
The slush field race will be held in 4 separate categories for men and women and will be inaugurated by Shree Devi Education Trust Chairman Sadananda Shetty.
At 10:00 a.m., District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar will inaugurate the tug of war competition. Harikrishna Punaroor, the former president of the Kendra Kannada Sahitya Parishad, will inaugurate the Kambala. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will inaugurate the Tappangayi competition, which requires participants to hold coconuts smeared with coconut oil in their hands and smash them against coconuts held by other contestants.
Another highlight of this year’s Kambala is the Vodafone Treasure Hunt, the rules for which will be revealed on the day of the event.
The Kambala itself will be held in a wide range of categories such as Kane Halage, Hagga Hiriya, and Hagga Kiriya. The owners of the buffalo pair that wins will receive gold medals.
Mr. Shetty also said that Vasudeva Achayra of Kakkunje will release a book called Satyada Siri on the occasion.
He further said that an exhibition and sale of books and traditional items will also be arranged on the day of the Kambala and that facilities will be provided for videographers and photographers.
The organizers have urged people to visit in large numbers, support rural sport, and introduce their children to the culture of Tulunadu.
