The police initially believed that close relatives had murdered the couple, but this Saturday, the crime branch detained Mohammed Rafiq, a painter based in Somvarpet, and his relative Saeed alias Qamruddin of Punjalkatte. The duo had become friendly with Thomas, who had contracted Saeed to provide red stone. The police used advanced mobile tracking techniques to reach the duo.
The murder weapon was found discarded in the bushes a few kilometers away from the couple’s house. The murderer had removed Thomas’ SIM card from his phone and had used the handset, and this helped the police to track him.
The police arrested Saeed and Rafiq on Bakrid Day and interrogated them. Initially, Rafiq told the police that he found the handset near a playground in Kadaba, but later, he said that he purchased the mobile phone from Thomas for Rs. 1,200.
The police also found that the murderers had pledged the stolen gold with a goldsmith.
In the meantime, the police are in the process of uncovering more interesting details related to the double murder.
