Mangaluru, Mar 31, 2026: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta has announced that a development project worth ₹2.91 crore has been sanctioned to enhance passenger amenities at the Kabaka–Puttur railway station.
Under this project, approval has been granted for the construction of a large shelter on Platform No. 1 at a cost of ₹2.91 crore. Currently, the station has only a 531 sq. m shelter for passengers. The new project will provide a spacious shelter covering 3,392 sq. m. The process of identifying the location for the shelter has been completed, and construction work is expected to begin soon. Once completed, it will significantly improve convenience for passengers at the station, the MP said.
Additionally, a proposal has been made to install two lifts near Platforms 1 and 2 to facilitate easy movement for passengers using the existing foot overbridge (FOB). The project is estimated to cost ₹1.33 crore and is currently under review at the Railway headquarters, he added.
Highlighting the need for development, the MP had written to the General Manager of South Western Railway in November 2024, urging expansion of the shelter. He had pointed out the difficulties faced by passengers who were exposed to harsh sunlight during summer and rain during monsoon while boarding trains.
Taking the issue seriously, he pursued the matter with the Railway authorities, emphasizing the urgency of expanding the platform shelter. The sanction of funds for the station’s development comes as a result of these efforts.
The MP also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, V. Somanna, and the Railway Department on behalf of passengers and railway users’ associations for approving the project.
