Mangalore, Dec 10, 2011: Khaleel Ahmed, the chairman of the Karnataka Zakat and Charitable Trust (KZCT), which is affiliated to the Hyderabad Zakat and Charitable Trust (HZCT), announced a scholarship distribution ceremony, during which scholarships will be distributed among 5,800 deserving Muslim students at Loyola Hall in St. Aloysius College on Dec 11 Sunday. He was addressing reporters at a press meet held at Hotel Gateway.
Further, Mr. Ahmed said that zakat can be better utilized for the welfare of society if the Muslim community pays it collectively. The funds are mobilized from the community to be used in educating the underprivileged sections of the society.
He also said that this aid is given in the form of grant that enables the student to pay for theier tuition fees and also that takes care of the cost involved for the purchase of books as well as for their Hostel, travel and miscellaneous expenditure.
Ghiasuddin Babukhan, the chairman of HZCT, and Khaleel Ahmed will be chief guests of the event and will distribute a total of Rs. 2.5 crore among 5,800 students.
