KSRTC bus breakdown triggers traffic chaos on Saturday in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Sep 13, 2026: A KSRTC bus breakdown on Kankanady Old Road on Saturday afternoon disrupted traffic for several hours, forcing vehicles from Pumpwell towards Kankanady to be diverted through Nanthoor and Shivabagh.

The bus broke down around 12.30 pm on the one-way stretch, completely blocking the road. Traffic police diverted vehicles through Nanthoor, resulting in heavy congestion at Nanthoor Junction and along the Kadri-Shivabagh stretch.

The traffic snarls were compounded by school vehicles returning students home and the weekend rush. Several commuters were seen walking from Pumpwell towards Kankanady due to the congestion.

Traffic remained heavy across the city into the evening, with the Ganesha Chaturthi shopping rush adding to the pressure. Hampankatta, State Bank, Lady Goschen Road, Lalbagh, Ambedkar Circle, Bunts Hostel, Kadri, Bejai and the KSRTC Junction were among the areas affected by bumper-to-bumper traffic.
