
Mangalore, Nov 16: The department of anesthesiology and critical care of KS Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) Deralakatte is organizing the first National Difficulty Airway Conference and Anesthesia Updat (NDACON) on Nov 19 – 21.

Addressing reporters at a press conference held at the Press Club on Nov 16, Tuesday, Dr. Anand Bangera, the organizing secretary, said that workshops on difficult airway management and regional anesthesia techniques will be held on Nov 19 as part of NDACON 2010.
Explaining airway management, he said that control and maintenance of patent airway is essential in the process of anesthetizing patients for surgeries. Additional care is required in case of patients with difficult airway caused by facial defects, stiff joints, burns, and others. The conference has been organized with the purpose of providing hands-on skills and higher knowledge, he said.
Dr. A. Subramanyeshwar Rao, the superintendent of police, will inaugurate NDACON 2010 on Nov 20. Nitte University Chancellor N. V. Hegde will preside over the event and will launch the All India Difficult Airway Association (AIDAA). Prof Dr. M. Shantaram Shetty, the vice chancellor of Nitte University; and Prof. Dr. Arunachalam Kumar, the dean of KSHEMA, will be the guests of honour. The occasion will be graced by the presence of Dr. Ramkumar Venkateshwaran, the chairman of the All India Difficult Airway Association.
Dr. Andreas C. Gerber, the senior anesthesiologist at University Children’s Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland; and Prof. Dr. Harsoor S. S., the editor of Indian Journal of Anesthesiology, will be felicitated on the occasion. Over 400 delegates from all over India and abroad will participate in this conference, he said.
