Mangaluru, June 21, 2025: K.S. Hegde Medical Academy, Nitte (Deemed to be University), held a solemn and heartfelt appreciation ceremony on 20th June 2025 to recognize the exceptional bravery and selfless service of volunteers who played a crucial role in the rescue operations following the Montepadav rain tragedy on 30th May 2025. The event, held at Chintana Hall, 2nd Floor of Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital, commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Sripada Mehandale, Professor, Department of Anaesthesiology.

Dr. H.R. Thimmaiah, District Health & Family Welfare Officer of Dakshina Kannada, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he commended the unwavering dedication and courageous efforts of the volunteers who responded swiftly and selflessly during the calamity. As a mark of gratitude, appreciation certificates were presented by the District Health Authorities to recognize their exemplary service.

The gathering was also graced by esteemed dignitaries including Dr. Sandeep Rai, Dean, KSHEMA; Dr. Sukanya Shetty, Vice Dean, KSHEMA; and Dr. Sumalatha R. Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital. They commended the honorees for their spirit of service, resilience, and unity during the crisis.

Thirty individuals—including doctors, nurses, paramedical personnel, and ambulance drivers—were felicitated for their exemplary contributions during the disaster response. Their swift interventions were instrumental in providing timely assistance to those affected by the torrential rains.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Kishan Prasad H.L., Professor of Pathology and MEU Coordinator. The proceedings were elegantly anchored by Dr. Nisha Shetty from the Department of Anaesthesiology, who served as the Master of Ceremony.
