Mangaluru, Oct 3, 2026: The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has sought around 50 acres of government land in Mangaluru to develop cricket infrastructure, including practice facilities and other essential amenities.

In a letter to Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Chairman Santosh Kumar Shetty, KSCA president B.K. Venkatesh Prasad requested that the land be allotted either through outright purchase or on a 50-year lease.

The request follows discussions between MUDA and KSCA representatives on developing cricket facilities in Mangaluru and identifying suitable locations for the proposed infrastructure.

The KSCA, a non-profit organisation registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, said its objective is to promote and develop cricket across Karnataka. It pointed out that more than 40 per cent of the state team currently comprises players from districts outside Bengaluru, underscoring the need for improved sporting infrastructure across the state.

As Mangaluru is a district headquarters, the association said adequate cricket facilities were essential to provide aspiring players from the district and neighbouring areas with opportunities to train and showcase their talent.

The KSCA said it was prepared to invest in developing the proposed facility and assured the government that the land would be used exclusively for promoting and developing cricket.

According to the letter, once the land is allotted and handed over, the KSCA plans to develop the facility in phases and complete essential infrastructure, including drainage systems, practice facilities and basic amenities, within three years.

The proposed facility is expected to benefit young cricketers from Mangaluru and surrounding areas and is envisaged as a Centre of Excellence for cricket development in the region.

The KSCA has also urged MUDA to consider allotting the land at the lowest rates applicable to educational and sports organisations, whether through outright sale or a long-term lease.
