Mangalore, Jan 13: District and Sessions Court Judge H. R. Deshpande inaugurated the 3-day mobile van court and mobile public campaign, which will be held in the premises of the JMF Court on Jan 13, Thursday. The campaign has been jointly organized by the revenue department, police department, and Zilla Panchayath.
In his address, he said that the mobile van court was launched in Mangalore on Jan 18, 2010, and that it has been of great help to rural people, who have to make frequent trips to the district’s court and high court to attend hearings every time cases are adjourned and petitioners are summoned for the next hearing.
The mobile van court has created a lot of awareness among rural people about the judicial system. Besides saving them money, it has taken justice directly to their doorsteps. The van has facilities such as sitting room, rest room, toilet, and so on. The van, which has been functional from the past 15 days, will cover entire Mangalore in the final phase.
Further revealing that the campaign was also launched last year, he said that this year, the campaign will reach villages not covered previously and will provide legal knowledge to rural masses.
Mangalore Bar Association President SP Chengappa said that the mobile court will solve all cases that can be solved through discussions and talks.
SP Dr. A. S. Subrahmanyeshwar Rao said that lack of legal knowledge in villages necessitates such awareness programmes and promised the full support of the police department. SDM Law College President B. K. Ravindra was also present on the occasion.
