Mangalore, Nov 8, 2012: District JD(S) President M. B. Sadashiv declared that the government has taken away the freedom of the press by getting Naveen Soorinje, reporter for Kasturi TV, arrested in connection with the home stay attack of July 28.

Stating that the influential person responsible for this arrest must be identified and severely punished, he said that such incidents prevent journalists from doing their duty in peace.

Speaking on the occasion, JD(S) Secretary M. G. Hegde said that Naveen has been arrested only to suppress witnesses to the home stay attack. Stating that press persons are not police informers, he said that the BJP must take action against police officers who have arrested him at an odd time.

JD(S) leaders Nagaraj Shetty, Amarnath Shetty, Sushil Noronha, and others were also present.
