Mangalore, July 18, 2013 : Tension prevailed in front of the MCC building at Lalbagh for some time on July 17, Wednesday when residents of Pachanady who are agitated over the haphazard dumping of wastes at the dumping yard in their locality, resorted to a novel protest. In fact they had seized a garbage truck of the MCC and had brought it before the MCC office with a plan to dump the garbage right in front of the office, but were prevented by the Barke police who rushed to the spot.
The residents of Pachanady resorted to this step after their repeated appeal to ensure dumping of garbage in a scientific manner had fallen on deaf ears. Their complaint is that the garbage is dumped in an unscientific manner and also that the meat wastes were thrown in the open instead of burying them as per the rules.
They also state that stray dogs which pick the wastes then discard it as and where possible in turn posing cleanliness problems and giving rise to fear of spread of contagious diseases.
