International Yoga Day reflects global respect for India’s cultural heritage: MP Brijesh Chowta

Mangaluru, Jun 22, 2026: International Yoga Day is a global recognition of India’s rich cultural heritage and ancient way of life, said Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Brijesh Chowta.

He was speaking after inaugurating the International Yoga Day celebrations organized by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, and the AYUSH Department at the Town Hall in Mangaluru on Sunday.

India has taught the world how to lead a healthy and balanced life. Looking at the current global scenario, the importance and relevance of yoga have become more evident than ever, he said.

MLA D Vedavyas Kamath presided over the function.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V., District Surgeon Dr. Shivaprakash, Sub-Divisional Officer Meenakshi Arya, DCP Ravishankar, ASP Anil Kumar, and Brahma Kumari Ambika were present on the occasion.

During the event, Akshay B.M., a Class 6 student from Enakallu village in Kadaba taluk who achieved a world record in yoga, was felicitated.

District AYUSH Officer Dr. Manikarnika welcomed the gathering. A mass yoga session was later conducted under the guidance of yoga guru Gopalakrishna Delampady.
