Intellect and Integrity Key to Progress, Says Dr. Abhijat Sheth at MAHE Convocation

Mangaluru, May 25, 2025: Dr. Abhijat Sheth, President of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, emphasized the critical role of intellect and integrity in shaping the future during the 32nd convocation ceremony of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) held in Mangaluru on Saturday.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Sheth highlighted the growing need for educated and ethical professionals amidst a rapidly transforming global landscape. “As our society faces unprecedented technological advancements, environmental challenges, and socio-economic shifts, the importance of individuals who are not only knowledgeable but also uphold strong ethical standards has never changed,” he said. “It is this combination of intellect and integrity that will drive meaningful progress.”

He also underscored the significance of effective communication and research in medical education. “At the highest levels of policymaking, we recognise that effective communication and a strong foundation in clinical research are essential skills for future healthcare professionals. These disciplines must be cultivated early in medical training,” he added.

H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of MAHE, also addressed the gathering, stating that the graduating class represents the next generation of innovators and changemakers. “At MAHE, we don’t just prepare students for careers, we prepare them to shape the future,” he said.

Vice-Chancellor Lt. Gen. M.D. Venkatesh noted that MAHE empowers its students to think critically, collaborate across cultures, and drive innovation that matters.

This year, a total of 1,367 students graduated from the institution, including 766 undergraduates, 440 postgraduates, and 161 PhD recipients. Of these, 616 students received their degrees in person.

The prestigious Dr. TMA Pai Gold Medal was awarded to four outstanding students: Isha Tripathi (MBBS, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal), R. Prithvi (MBBS, Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru), Chaarvi Bansal (BDS, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal), and Anoushka Avi (BDS, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangaluru).
