Speaking to reporters at the party office here on August 25, Thursday, he said it was sad that a time has come when those who  assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, are glorified. An attempt is being made to downplay the contributions of the Nehru family to the nation.

The state government omitting the photo of Nehru in its Independence Day advertisement is indeed hurtful, he said and recalled the contributions of Nehru to the nation  and also to the district. He said  several assets like Airport, NMPT and NITK were the results of the hard works of  great leaders like U S Mallya  who was greatly admired by Nehru. Today, the  airport has been sold off and NMPT too is on the same path, efforts are underway to privatise banks, LIC and railways. Even  some people are now referring to Nehru Maidan as Kendra Maidan as it was called during pre-independence days. Is this proper?, he questioned.

Party leaders Shashidhar Hegde, Sahul Hameed, Shalet Pinto and others were present.
