
Udupi, May 8, 2014 : Udupi Deputy Commissioner Muddu Mohan has warned of stern action against those involved in illegal sand mining in the district.

He was presiding over the District Level Sand Mining Committee meeting held at the DC office meeting hall at Manipal on May 7, Wednesday.
The DC said there have been complaints of illegal sand mining and transportation thereby evading revenue to the government. Officials have been instructed to initiate strict action by embarking on raids with effect from May 8 itself, he iinformed.
He further said officials must act without any fear or favour. He said they will get the full co-operation of the police department and there will be no comprise, the DC said.
He said a taluk level Action Force would be formed to conduct the raids. Muddu Mohan informed that temporary permit for sand mining has been granted to 141 persons in CRZ and non-CRZ areas in the district.
He also warned action against those officials who fail to act upon complaints of illegal sand mining.
On this occasion, the DC asked officials to register criminal cases against owners of quarries who fail to cover the quarries once they stop operations.
Yogeshwar, AC of Kundapur, Pranesh Rao, ZP Deputy Secretary, Gayatri Nayak, Tahsildar of Kundapur and officials of various departments participated in the meeting.
