Illegal power connection: Whopping Rs 3.4 cr penalty on Manipal Dental College

 Mangalore, Dec 10, 2013 : The Manipal Dental College at Attavar will now have to pay a whopping fine of Rs 3.4 crore for  having  an unauthorised power connection since 2008.

The MESCOM Vigilance Squad had raided the College on December 9, Monday following a complaint from a social activist who had alleged that the College was  using  an illegal connection through KMC.

The  raiding team comprising of officials from Shimoga, Udupi and  Chikmagalur were at the  College all through the day on Monday and realised that the college was  using more power than the quantity sanctioned to it. However, they found that the college was regular in paying its electricity bills.

The officials finally slapped a penalty of Rs 3.45 crore on the college for the illegal act. The MESCOM has also directed the college to secure a licence from the MCC.
