IOB Chennai emerges champion of national volleyball tournament

Udupi, Apr 10, 2012 :The Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) Chennai Team beat the Southern Railway (SR) Chennai Team in the finals of the National Volleyball Tournament held on April 9 Monday and won the first prize amount of Rs. 1,00,001.

The second prize amount of Rs. 77,777 was won by SR Chennai and the Karnataka Police Team won the third prize amount of Rs. 55,555. The fourth prize amount of Rs. 33,333 was won by HSIDC Haryana.


 

 

 

The cash prizes were distributed among the winners by donors Arunakar Shetty Kalattur, Chandrahas Shetty Yermal, Lokesh Shetty Belapuguttu, David D’Souza, and others.

The chief guests of the event were Kaup MLA Lalaji R. Mendon, Sudhakar Shetty, Jayaprakash Rai, Yellur Temple Managing Trustee Y. Prafulla  Shetty, Manager Raghavendra Rao, and Tulu folk art scholar K. L. Kundanthaya were the chief guests of the occasion.

Akshatha Poojary, the international power lifter, and Annamalai, the volleyball player, were honored on this occasion, during which Yashwanth Shetty, the convener of the Yellur Yuvak Mandal Golden Jubilee Committee, and Deepak Y., its president, were present.

The floodlit volleyball event attracted more than 5,000 spectators, and it was organized as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of Yellur Yuvak Mandal.
