Honnavar: Couple electrocuted after coming in contact with live wire

Honnavar, Oct 20, 2025: In a tragic incident near Kasarkodu in Honnavar taluk, a couple lost their lives after accidentally coming in contact with a live electric wire.

The deceased have been identified as Santosh Ganapu Gowda (50) and his wife Seethu Santosh Gowda (42). The incident occurred late last night in front of the Batte Vinayaka Temple at Kasarkodu, where a snapped high-tension power line had fallen. The couple reportedly came into contact with the live wire near the courtyard of their house and died on the spot.

Residents of Kasarkodu have alleged that negligence by the HESCOM department led to the accident and staged a protest in front of the government hospital demanding accountability.

The bodies were shifted to the Honnavar Government Hospital. Minister Mankal Vaidya visited the site, expressed condolences, and assured financial assistance to the bereaved family.
