Home Minister inaugurates new commissioner’s office

Mangalore, June 26: Home Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya announced that the commissioner’s office has been established within 5 months of the formation of the commissionerate, after inaugurating the Commissioner’s Office located at the SP Guest House on June 26, Saturday. Seventeen of the twenty-eight police stations in the district come under the commissionerate, he added.

 

 

 

Urging the public to provide feedback in the form of suggestions and opinions for the further development of the police department, the home minister said that the Mangalore commissionerate was born on June 26, 2010 and will have its own building within one year proposed budget of the 2,000 square feet building is over Rs. 3 crores. Around 4,011 civil police constables will be recruited to strengthen the police department. The finance department of the state has already approved the recruitment of 600 regular policemen for the department.

District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar, who presided over the inaugural ceremony, said that the commissioner will have to work hard to maintain peace and harmony in the city. He also pointed out that the commissionerate began functioning almost as soon as it was formed although the office was inaugurated on June 26. The home minister has approved the implementation of a service station for the police department to maintain the department vehicles, he said urging the department to raise the fines for vehicle owners who park in non parking zones.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Commissioner of Police Seemanth Kumar Singh made the welcome and introductory speech in which he said that a proposal for the establishment of a commissionerate in Mangalore was sent five times before it could finally come into existence. He also informed that the department plans to recruit 200 home guards and 600 police constables and declared that the Crime Branch of the city will soon be ready.

The home minister felicitated architects and engineers such as Sanath Shetty, Santhosh Shetty, Gopalan, Dharmaraj, and many others for constructing the building within a month. DCP R. Ramesh proposed the vote of thanks and News Bureau Chief of Udayavani Manohar Prasad compered the programme.

DGP Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh,said that A total of 17 police stations including Mulki and Moodbidri come under the jurisdiction of the new Police Commissionerate. Two DCPs and five ACPs have also been deputed to work under City Police Commissioner.

R Ramesh, Additional Superintendent of police, DK, has already been posted as Deputy Commissioner Police (Law and Order).  Muthuraya is expected to take charge as Deputy Commissioner of police for Crime.

IGP, Western Range B. Gopal Hosur, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Udupi MP Sadananda Gowda, DC V. Ponnuraj, MLA Ramanath Rai, MLA Abhayachandra Jain, Mayor of Mangalore Rajani Dugganna, Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar, and President of the Zilla Panchayath were the prominent citizens seated on the dais.
