
Mangalore, Nov 28, 2012 : The Western Range Home Guards have organized a 3-day sports meet on the district police grounds. Inaugurated on Nov 27, Tuesday, the sports meet includes events such as Kabbaddi, Tug of War, Volley Ball, and others for teams from Karwar, DK, Udupi, and Chikmagalur.





Prof. T. C. Shivashankar Murthy, vice chancellor of Mangalore University, inaugurated the meet. An inaugural parade marked the beginning of the event. The VC received the salute and accepted the participant’s oaths, after which he released pigeons into the air and declared the sports meet open.
Addressing the gathering, the VC expressed his appreciation of the Home Guards and spoke of the importance of conducting sports events.
DCP Dharmaiah was the guest of honor on this occasion. Speaking about the greatness of sport, he said that it has no boundaries of caste, profession, and religion.
District Commandant of Home Guards Prof. Dr. Nidarsh Hegde delivered the welcome address and gave a brief introduction to the sports meet. Revealing information about the Home Guards, he said that they have served in various fields such as zoology department, coastal police, tourism, KSRTC, temples, and others.
