Mangalore, Nov 23, 2012 : The High Court of Karnataka vacated a stay on the local court proceedings against Naveen Soorinje, reporter for Kasturi TV channel, who was arrested in connection with the attack on partying youngsters in Mangalore Mist Home Stay.
Justice Nagamohan Das vacated the stay after receiving a communication from the trial judge seeking his clarification on the High Court stay order of Nov 19, which prevented the trial court from coming to a decision on Soorinje’s application for bail.
Yesterday, Judicial Magistrate First Class Renuka Prasad had reserved orders on Soorinje’s second application for bail, filed after the High Court ordered a stay on proceedings against him regarding the home stay attack.
Soorinje had claimed that he had only done his duty as a reporter and had absolutely no role to play in the attack on partying youngsters. The court had rejected Soorinje’s first bail application on Nov 17. The magistrate had maintained that the High Court had only stayed court proceedings against Soorinje, but was silent on releasing him.
The local court will make a decision on Soorinje’s second bail application after the High Court issues a clarification regarding the stay order.
