Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Sep 6, 2013 : The Karnataka High Court has issued a stay order to the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation.

High CourtThe stay comes in the wake of a petition filed by Kudroli JD(S) corporator Azeez Kudroli challenging the reservation of the mayoral post for a lady candidate  that too for the third time in the past six years.

Azeez has said that he had to inevitably move the Court as the Government had announced the reservation in violation of the rotation system.

Meanwhile, the High Court stay may all likely to result in the postponement of the mayoral elections scheduled for September 12.

Commenting on the development, MCC Commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde has said preparations have been made for the September 12 Mayor elections. “However in the wake of the High Court stay order, we will proceed as per the directions of the government,”he further added.
