
Mangalore, Oct 2, 2013 : Rasheed Malbari, a notorious criminal said to be an associate of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who was convicted by the DK District Court in a case of illegal possession of arms, has been granted interim bail by the High Court.
Earlier, the legal counsels for Rasheed Malbari had moved the High Court challenging the verdict of the district court which sentenced Malbari and Mohammad Hashim to five years of imprisonment and had also slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 on them.
Purushottam Poojari, advocate for Malbari told that the High Court granted interim bail on the grounds that Malbari has already spent four years and six months in jail and that the maximum imprisonment in a illegal arms possession case was only three years.
Rasheed Malbari and his associates were arrested by the DCIB Inspector Dr HN Venkatesh Prasanna led team on March 29,2009 at Chattanchal in Kasargod. The police had seized 9 m.m. pistol and live bullets from them.
