Hidden camera row: Suo moto case filed; FIR against 3 girl students

Udupi, July 26, 2023: A suo moto case has been registered in Malpe police station on July 26, Wednesday with regard to the alleged incident of filming of a student in the washroom of the Netra Jyothi Institute of Allied Health Sciences of Udupi by placing a hidden camera.

 

As per the complaint lodged by Sushma G B, sub-inspector of Malpe police station,  cases have been registered against three female students under  Column 509, 204, 175, 34 of the IPC and Section 66€ of the IT Act.

It has been stated that the case has been registered to know the facts in the incident. Three female students Alfiya, Shabhnaz and Aleema have been named in the FIR.

The complaint has alleged that the management had failed to produce details and evidence regarding the incident that tarnishes the reputation of the victim. The complaint said the morphed video was uploaded on a YouTube channel and a person named Kalu Singh Chowhan had posted it in his Twitter Account. The three female students have already been suspended from the college.

This issue has now snowballed into a major controversy with the BJP even embarking on protests.
