Hejmady Kodi fishing harbour project sees 87% progress, says Union Minister quoting Karnataka government

New Delhi, December 12, 2025: The Hejmady Kodi fishing harbour project in Udupi district has reached 87% completion, the Karnataka government has informed the Centre.

In the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said the project is scheduled to be completed by March 2026. He stated that the Karnataka Department of Fisheries is the implementing agency for the ₹138.60-crore project, of which the Union government has contributed ₹34.65 crore under the Sagarmala Scheme. The information was provided in response to an unstarred question raised by MP Narayana Koragappa.

Responding to another unstarred question from Mr. Koragappa on December 3, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Rajan Singh informed the House that over the last five years (FY 2021-22 to FY 2024-25), the Centre approved fisheries development proposals worth ₹1,058.98 crore for Karnataka under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), with a Central share of ₹366.13 crore. Of this, ₹295.02 crore has been released to the State for various sanctioned projects.

These approved proposals include the modernisation and upgradation of three existing fishing harbours, maintenance dredging at three harbours, and several beneficiary-oriented activities. Under the Blue Revolution Scheme, approvals were also granted for two fishing harbours and one fish landing centre at a total cost of ₹421.19 crore.

Additionally, on January 10, 2024, the Centre approved Karnataka’s proposal for the modernisation and upgradation of the Mangaluru, Malpe, and Gangolli fishing harbours at a cost of ₹72.17 crore under the Centrally Sponsored Component of PMMSY. The State government has reported that these three projects are expected to be completed by December 31, 2026.
