
Hebri, Jun 1, 2026: Hebri police have cracked a major house burglary case and arrested three persons accused of stealing gold and silver ornaments worth nearly Rs 60 lakh from a residence near SRS School in Ananthanagar under Hebri police station limits.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ramdeen Salim, a native of Perur in Chennai currently residing at Cheriyalambadi, Muttathody, in Kasaragod district of Kerala; Harish Shetty of Mijar village in Moodbidri; and Safwan of Nellikatte Chennadka in Nekraje village of Kasaragod district.
Police recovered gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 37.87 lakh and a car valued at Rs 4 lakh from the accused. Another suspect is absconding, and efforts are underway to trace him. Police said additional stolen property is expected to be recovered from the absconding accused.
According to the police, the burglars broke into the house of Keerthana Prabhu on May 24 and stole gold ornaments worth Rs 49.42 lakh, silver ornaments worth Rs 3.95 lakh, and diamond jewellery with gold plating valued at Rs 6.60 lakh. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at Rs 59.77 lakh. A case was subsequently registered at Hebri Police Station.
Following the directions of Udupi Superintendent of Police Hari Ram Shankar and under the supervision of Additional SP Sudhakar S. Nayak and Karkala DySP S. Vijayaprasad, a special team was formed to investigate the case.
The team, led by Karkala Circle Inspector Manjappa D.R. and in-charge CPI Raghavendra, included Hebri PSI Ravi B.K., PSI Chandra A.K., Karkala Rural PSI Prasanna M.S., Shirva PSI Manjunath Marabada, Padubidri PSI Rajesh P., and other police personnel. After an intensive investigation, the team succeeded in tracing and arresting the accused.
Police said Ramdeen Salim was previously accused in the 2013 R.N. Nayak murder case in Ankola, Uttara Kannada district, and in a theft case under Manipal Police Station limits. Harish Shetty also has criminal cases registered against him, including attempted murder and drug consumption cases in Moodbidri and an assault case in Surathkal.
