Udupi, July 27, 2013 : Heavy rains that have been lashing various places in Udupi district since the past couple of days have thrown normal life out of gear. Nearly 10 houses have been damaged, while sea erosion continues to haunt several places. Holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in Udupi district on July 27, Saturday.
There have been reports of damages caused to houses in Alevoor, Innanje, Padur in Udupi taluk and Shedimane Gulvady and Hardalli villages in Kundapur taluk. There have been even reports of floods in low lying areas in Byndoor.
In Karkala, a house was damaged in Neere village after a tree fell over it. The roof tiles of several houses were also damaged due to strong winds.
Meanwhile, the problem of sea erosion continues in Tenka Yermal, Bada Yermal, Udyavara-Padukere, Padukere-Kuthpady, Malpe, Kodikanyana, Kundapur-Kodi, Kotathattu, Mannur-Padukere, Trasi and Maravanthe.
Several coconut trees have also been washed away by the mighty tidal waves. Officials say the sea erosion this year was severe compared to previous years.
The authorities have also warned fishermen against venturing into the sea.
