Heavy rain forecast for Dakshina Kannada from June 21

Mangaluru, Jun 19, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall across Dakshina Kannada district for four consecutive days beginning June 21.

The district witnessed widespread showers during the early hours of Thursday, while overcast skies persisted throughout much of the day.

Amid the forecast of intense rainfall, meteorologists have also expressed concern over the strengthening El Niño conditions. Reports suggest that the intensifying weather phenomenon could lead to a substantial rainfall deficit across Karnataka during the southwest monsoon season, which extends from June to September.

The contrasting outlook of short-term heavy rainfall and the possibility of below-normal seasonal precipitation has raised concerns among weather experts and farmers alike, as the monsoon remains vital for agriculture, water resources, and overall economic activity in the state.
