Heavy rain and thunderstorms hit Dakshina Kannada, orange alert issued for two days

Mangaluru, Oct 22, 2025: Dakshina Kannada district was hit by heavy rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday evening, following a misty and slightly chilly morning. Areas affected include Mangaluru, Surathkal, Bantwal, Kalladka, Uppinangadi, Puttur, Beltangadi, Dharmasthala, Ujire, Naravi, Madanthyar, Kanyana, Vitla, Moodbidri, Ullal, and Manjeshwar, along with nearby regions.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for October 22 and 23, warning of widespread heavy rain and thunderstorms along the coastal belt.

Puttur: Heavy rain triggered a landslide near Macchimale, disrupting local road access.

Udupi District: Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning was reported. Similar weather conditions are expected to continue until October 25, with rain forecast for Byndoor, Kundapura, Karkala, Hebri, Kota, Brahmavar, Malpe, Udupi, Manipal, Hiriyadka, Shirva, Katpadi, Kapu, and Padubidri.

Karkala: Continuous rain over the past few days, along with lightning strikes, resulted in the death of two cows in Miyar village. Lightning also damaged home appliances like fans, TVs, and internet routers in areas such as Ajekaru, Kuntalapadi, and Kervashe. Rain continues in Karkala, Hebri, Agumbe, Bajagoli, Muniyalu, and Kabbinale, posing ongoing risks.

Kasargod: Heavy showers were recorded on Tuesday evening in Kasargod, Badiyadka, Kumbla, and Manjeshwar.

The IMD has issued local alerts for Wednesday, an orange alert for Thursday, and additional alerts for Friday and Saturday, urging residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
