Heavy rain: Holiday declared for schools, PU colleges in Dakshina Kannada on July 24

Mangaluru, Jul 24, 2026: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has declared a holiday for all educational institutions up to the pre-university (PU) level on Friday, July 24, following incessant rainfall and a yellow alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC).

According to an order issued late Thursday night by the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, the holiday applies to all anganwadi centres, government, aided and private primary and high schools, residential schools, PU colleges and PU residential colleges (up to Class 12) across the district.

The Deputy Commissioner warned that any violation of the order would attract legal action under Section 51(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

As part of precautionary measures, the District Disaster Management Authority has issued a set of safety guidelines. Parents have been advised to ensure that children stay away from waterlogged areas, lakes, riverbanks and beaches. Tourists and the general public have also been urged not to visit riverbanks or coastal areas, while fishermen have been directed not to venture into the sea.

District and taluk-level officials have been instructed to remain at their headquarters and carry out disaster management responsibilities without fail. They have also been directed to respond promptly to public complaints, remain in constant touch with the Deputy Commissioner’s control room, and ensure that care centres in every taluk are operational and ready for emergencies.
