Heavy Rains Lash Coast; IMD Issues Red Alert

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Aug 17, 2025: Continuous rainfall battered Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Saturday, disrupting normal life and triggering landslips in several parts. While some areas witnessed intermittent showers, most regions recorded heavy downpour throughout the day.

Train services on the Mangaluru–Bengaluru route were hit after a landslip at Edakumeri left tracks blocked with mud and boulders. Subrahmanya and nearby regions reported flooding as rising water levels in the Gundya stream inundated farmlands and houses along the Ichlampady–Mandak stream in Kadaba taluk. Several families were shifted to safer locations as a precaution. Heavy rains also lashed Beltangady and Sullia taluks, causing rivulets and streams to overflow.
