Health department warns against Congo Fever

congo fever jan 23Kasargod, Jan 23: The Kerala Health Department has instructed all its units in Kerala to take the required medical precautions against a new variety of fever called Congo Fever, the early symptom of which is pain in the stomach. If the fever goes to the brain, it can get dangerous, warns the health department and adds that the fever can be brought under control only when it is detected in the early stages.


The health department has sounded this alert following the report of the death of 3 people in Ahmedabad, including a nurse from Kerala. Medical investigations have revealed that all these 3 died of Congo Fever.


Asha of Pattanantitta Otara in Kerala died in Ahemdabad and postmortem reports have revealed Congo virus in her blood. Known in medical terms as “Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever,” the disease has its origins in Africa and has been spreading in Asian countries recently.


The symptoms become obvious three days after the virus enters the body. The health department has requested the center to conduct exhaustive research regarding this disorder and launch precautionary measures against it.
