Harekala Hajabba releases 5 books at 2-day Beary Sammelana

Mangalore, Dec 10, 2011: The 2-day Beary Sammelana, organized by the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, was inaugurated at Town Hall on Dec 10 Saturday.

Harekala Hajabba inaugurated the event and released 5 Beary books - Prof. B. M. Ichlangodu’s Permie, a research book on the Bearys of Tulunadu; Tulunadina Byarigalu, a translation by Tufail Mohammed; The Beary Language by Dr. Sushila P. Upadhyaya; and Beary Baashe, a translation by Dr. Sushila P. Upadhyaya.

Speaking on the occasion, Harekala Hajabba said that he is an illiterate person who realized the value of education much later in life, owing to which he worked for the establishment of an educational institution, which could help children achieve what he could not. He also acknowledged the role played by the Beary community and the local people in the establishment of his school.

Speaking about the importance of education, he said that education is very important in modern days because it is impossible to earn money without education. He urged Beary parents to give top priority to the education of their kids and stated that children need both spiritual and material education. He also expressed his gratitude to the academy for giving him an opportunity to inaugurate the convention.

Later, the title of Akkarada Avadhoota was conferred on Hajabba in recognition of his contributions to education.

Abdul Rahim Teekay spoke about the five books that were released.

B. A. Moideen, the former education minister, inaugurated the book stalls, the food exhibition, and the exhibition.

M. B. Abdul Rahman, the founder president of the Kendra Beary Sahithya Parishad, delivered the welcome address. Hamza Malar of Vartha Bharathi was the MC.

The sammelan comprised an interactive session titled Beary Badukina Tallanagalu, presided over by Umar T. K. of Bangalore. Attur Cheyabba presented a paper and Hamid Pallya of Suvarna TV compered.

K. M. Shareef, Sayyed Mohammed Beary, Zohara Abbas, Abdul Ravoof Puthige, Kairunisa Sayyed, and Mohammed Beary Edapadavu were also present.
