New Delhi, Aug 15, 2023: India is celebrating its 77th Independence Day on August 15, 2023. On this day in 1947, India became a free nation after more than two centuries of British colonial rule.

 

Independence Day is a national holiday and a proud occasion for all Indians to commemorate the sacrifices and achievements of the freedom fighters, leaders, and citizens who fought for India’s independence.

A day of joy, respect, and revelry, this day is honoured by all Indians. The day is observed as an official holiday, but many schools and colleges have flag-hoisting ceremonies and other functions on alternate days near August 15. Many families also fly the tricolor flag from their houses or ornate their cars or homes with tri-coloured decorations.

Independence Day is a day when all Indians put aside their differences and celebrate their nation with unity.
