Guru-disciple bond takes centre stage at ’Anubandha’ Hindustani Classical Music Festival on July 23

Mangaluru, July 22, 2026: The Sangeetha Bharathi Foundation, in association with Udupi-based The Original Abharan Jewellers, will organise ’Anubandha – A Sacred Bond’, a Hindustani classical music festival celebrating the timeless guru-shishya (teacher-disciple) tradition, on July 23 at 5 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bengaluru.

The festival aims to showcase the unique musical bond between guru and disciple through a blend of melody, rhythm and tradition.

The highlight of the event will be a sitar jugalbandi by acclaimed sixth-generation Dharwad gharana exponent Ustad Rafique Khan and his disciple, young Mangaluru-based sitar artiste Ankush N. Nayak.

The performance will be complemented by internationally renowned Mumbai tabla maestro Pt. Yogesh Samsi and his disciple Yashwant Vaishnav, whose accompaniment is expected to enhance the musical dialogue between the sitar and tabla.

According to the organisers, the concert is not merely a musical performance but a celebration of a living tradition that has been passed down through generations. The coming together of a guru’s experience and a disciple’s youthful enthusiasm reflects the continuity of Indian classical music while embracing new artistic expressions.

The first half of the festival will feature a Hindustani classical vocal recital by the renowned Kashyap Bandhu brothers, Pt. Prabhakar Kashyap and Pt. Divakar Kashyap. Their performance, rooted in the Kirana gharana tradition, will include soulful alaaps, intricate swara patterns and expressive taans. They will be accompanied by noted harmonium artiste Pt. Ravindra Katoti and tabla player Yashwant Vaishnav.

The organisers said the title ’Anubandha’ symbolises a bond forged through music rather than words, representing the enduring connection between guru and disciple that continues across generations.
