The grocery store owner lost large quantities of pulses, cashew nuts, food grains, and rice in the fire, which broke out early in the morning. An hour later, the fire had destroyed furniture, a couple of refrigerators, Rs. 5000, and some important documents.

A tempo driver noticed smoke coming from the shop at 3:00 a.m. and called the shop owner. Since the fire fighting team was late in arriving, the building could not be saved. The fire was too strong for the local people to bring it under control.

The fire is believed to have been caused by short circuit. Mohammed of Kuddupadavu is the owner of the building, and A. M. Abubakker was managing the grocery store.
