
Mangalore, Aug 31, 2013 : State Minister for Science and Information Technology S R Patil has said that the government was keen in extending the IT industry to Tier II and Tier III cities apart from Bangalore, considering the fact that the IT industry was pollution-free.
He was speaking after inaugurating a seminar on Mangalore – the Emerging ITE Destination’, under the aegis of the Department of Information Technology, Bio-Technology, Science and Technology with the objective of promoting IT and Electronics in Tier II and Tier III cities in the State of Karnataka. The seminar was held at Ocean Pearl here on August 30, Friday.
The Minister further said the steps to boost IT sector would contribute to developing Karnataka as an IT hub of the nation in the near future.
B Ramanatha Rai, DK District in-charge Minister who also spoke, hoped investors would evince interest in IT projects in Mangalore with the objective of giving a boost to the IT sector.
Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chairman, Vision Group of IT, Government of Karnataka, Co-founder and Executive Vice Chairman, Infosys, and President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in his key-note address, urged educational institutions to promote entrepreneurship among students and see to it that at least a small percentage of students become job creators rather than job seekers.
Sanjeev Keskar, Chairman of Indian Electronics and semiconductor Association (IESA) and MD, Sales for India and SEA at PMC-Sierra said the IESA will be publishing a report highlighting opportunities in 20 electronic product segments.
Biren Ghose, Country Head of Technicolor India and President of Association of Bangalore Animation Industry, Abhayachandra Jain, State Minister for Youth Affairs and Fisheries and UT Khader, Minister for Health and Family Welfare were also present.
Around 200 delegates from across India took part in the event. Mohammed Ameen, President of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gopikrishnan Konnanath, Head – Development Centre, Mangalore at Infosys, Naren Konduvattat, Founder and Managing Director at i-Point, Vishal Hegde, Trustee of Nitte Education Trust, Fr Denzil Lobo, Rector, St Aloysius College Institutions were among others who took part in the conference.
