Governor blames corrupt politicians for delay in appointing Lokayukta

Mangalore, Jan 17, 2013: There is nothing wrong in naming a University after Tipu Sultan who is a national hero, said State Governor Hansaraj Bharadwaj.


Speaking to reporters at Circuit House in the city on January 16, Wednesday, the Governor said the criticisms leveled against the proposal by several including writers like Bhairappa and historian Chidanandamurthi are uncalled for. He said the proposal to reserve fifty per cent of the seats in the proposed university to Muslims and other minorities is most welcome.

The Governor  also took a dig at the state government for the inordinate delay in the appointment of a Lokayukta and said he would once again request the government to make an appointment.


However, there will be no deadlines, he clarified. The governor also stated that corrupt leaders in the state government were causing a delay in the appointment.


On the issue of the proposed ban on cattle slaughter, the Governor  chose to state that the issue has become a political issue than a religious one and  urged religious leaders not to intervene in the matter.
