Mangalore, Dec 19: B. S. Yeddyurappa, the chief minister of Karnataka, who was in Mangalore on Dec 19, Sunday, said that the government will give Rs. 2 lakh and a house as compensation to the parents of the 3-year-old girl child, who was killed as part of a black magic ritual at Sharbatkatte near Yeyyadi on Dec 17, Friday. However, the promised compensation and the house will be handed over to the grieving parents only after the ZP polls.
The 3-year-old who was murdered was the daughter of Anjali Jha and Firhan Jha from Bihar, who were employed at a small godown nearby. The murderers, Chandrakala, Kamalaksha, and Madhava Purusha, have now been remanded to judicial custody.
Meanwhile, pro Hindu outfits Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad have requested the members of the Mangalore Bar Association not to represent the 3 persons who stand accused to killing the little girl.
Bajrang Dal leaders Shivanand Mendon, Sharan Pumpwell, Harish Amtady, Dinesh Urwa, Divakar Kodman, and Nagesh Kadegoli are all of the same opinion.
According to the law, all accused persons have the right to defend themselves, and if no lawyer steps forward to represent them, the court will appoint a lawyer.
