Mangalore, September 7, 2012: B. Janardhan Poojary, former union minister, alleged that the state government has withdrawn 8 cases registered against ABVP activists because the ABVP has the support of the RSS and is the student unit of the BJP. He was addressing reporters at a press meet held at Press Club on September 7, Friday.

He said that ABVP activists assaulted a Muslim girl for not taking part in a protest organized by the ABVP against ’Coalgate’, adding that, according to national media reports, the assaulters pulled away her head scarf and tore her sleeves and tried to physically assault her.

He also accused the BJP of filing false cases against the victims and people who opposed the incident.

Calling the police “puppets” in the hands of BJP politicians, he expressed his appreciation of the Muslim girl and her supporters for immediately registering a complaint against the culprits. He stated that the BJP must take proper action against the ABVP and give up its habit of calling for bundhs if it has any regard for the Supreme Court and its orders.

Commenting on the coal scam, he said that the BJP is not allowing any discussion in Parliament because it is afraid that the discussion might reveal their faults and the involvement of BJP politicians in various scams.

Congress members Arun Coehlo, Harikrishna Bantwal, Suresh Ballal, and Kallige Tharanath Shetty were also present.
