Bengaluru, July 7, 2026: Karnataka Legislative Council member Puttanna on Saturday said the government and the Education Department have a crucial role in building a better society by ensuring quality and effective education and addressing genuine issues faced by the education sector without delay.
He was speaking after inaugurating the annual general meeting (2024–26) of the Karnataka Unaided Pre-University College Managements’ Association (KUPMA) at the Sheshadripuram College auditorium in Bengaluru by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
Addressing the gathering, Puttanna said the government must resolve real problems in the education system promptly. He alleged that officials often misuse issues faced by private educational institutions for personal interests. He stressed that the government and the Education Department should remain committed to providing quality education and should conduct proper studies before implementing new education policies. He also said educational institutions would become more sustainable and gain greater public trust when they function as institution-driven rather than individual-driven organisations.
Presenting the KUPMA annual report for 2024–26, the association’s state secretary, Prof. Narendra L. Nayak, said KUPMA, established in 2022, has consistently worked with the government to resolve issues affecting the education sector. He said the association believes in cooperation rather than confrontation and seeks constructive engagement with the government and the Education Department to address the concerns of private pre-university colleges. He urged the government to recognise the contributions and achievements of private educational institutions.
Speaking at the event, KUPMA Bengaluru North district honorary president Nadoja Vude P. Krishna said both the government and the private sector play an important role in providing quality education to students.
Presiding over the meeting, KUPMA state president Dr. M. Mohan Alva said the association would continue strengthening its organisational network across Karnataka and launch initiatives to expand its membership. He called upon members to work together in maintaining coordination with the government and resolving issues affecting educational institutions through dialogue.
On the occasion, KUPMA honoured Legislative Council member Puttanna in recognition of his contributions to democratic governance.
The programme was attended by KUPMA honorary president K.C. Nayak, Dr. M.B. Puranik, Bengaluru North district president Keerthan Kumar, Bengaluru South district president Dr. Jayaram Shetty, Bengaluru North district secretary Dr. Devaraj B.K., members of the KUPMA state committee and representatives from various districts across Karnataka.
