Goods train goes off track and dashes into shed

Mangalore, Sep. 20, 2012: A goods train, which went off the track, dashed into an ice plant near the old port and damaged the shed in which generators were stored in the night of September 19, Wednesday. Since the labourers were on leave owing to Ganesh Chaturthi, there was no loss of life. The few labourers who were working on an extra shift noticed the train on time and fled from the scene.

The engine driver said that he could not see the end of the track and therefore crashed into the shed.

 

Reportedly, the lighting facilities in the area are inadequate, owing to which the driver could not have seen the end of the track. A request has been made to authorities concerned to install extra lighting facilities to prevent such accidents in future.

The railway police and a team of mechanics have now cleared the mess and taken the train back to the railway station.
