Gold heist in Mangaluru: Five held in pre-planned robbery of jewellery shop employee

Mangaluru, Sep 29, 2025: In a major breakthrough, Mangaluru North police and the CCB team have arrested five persons in connection with the September 26 robbery of a gold bar from a jewellery shop employee.

The arrested are Farish (18), Safwan (23), Arafath Ali (18), Faraz (19), all from Ullal, and a juvenile employee of Choice Gold, Hampankatta.

The incident occurred near Sri Venkataramana Temple, Car Street, when Mustafa, an employee of Choice Gold, was carrying a gold bar hidden under his scooter seat. Around 8:45 pm, a gang intercepted him—two on a scooter blocked his way while others in a car abducted, assaulted him, and fled with the gold bar worth over ₹1.5 crore before releasing him at Ekkur.

Police said the juvenile employee had tipped off Farish about the movement of the gold. Safwan arranged the car, while Arafath and Faraz intercepted Mustafa. The gang executed the robbery as a pre-planned conspiracy.

A scooter used in the crime has been seized, and efforts are on to trace the car and recover the stolen gold.

The arrests were made under the supervision of senior police officials in a joint operation by Mangaluru North police and the CCB team.
