Gold Ornaments Stolen From Woman Killed in Kollur Accident

Udupi, May 24, 2026: In a shocking incident, miscreants allegedly stole gold ornaments from the body of a woman who died in a road accident at Kollur in Byndoor taluk of the district. The incident came to light nearly a week later, following which a complaint was registered at Kollur Police Station.

The accident had occurred on May 17 at Dali in Kollur when a fish transport insulated vehicle rammed into a jeep carrying tourists from Kerala. Two persons, identified as Jyothi and Aria Anoop, were killed in the mishap, while eight others sustained serious injuries.

Police said unidentified persons allegedly stole around 18 grams of gold jewellery worn by Jyothi, taking advantage of the confusion and chaos at the accident spot.

The missing ornaments came to the notice of the victim’s family members only recently, after which they approached the police and lodged a complaint.

The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who condemned the inhuman act of stealing ornaments from a deceased accident victim.
