The tragic incident occurred on the morning of July 15 near the old Gangolli estuary, when a boat carrying four fishermen overturned during a severe storm. One fisherman, Santosh Kharvi from Malyarabettu, was rescued by local fishermen.

Search operations are ongoing for the remaining two missing fishermen, identified as Sipaayi Suresh Kharvi (48) and Jagannath Kharvi (50). However, continuous rainfall, strong winds, and rough sea conditions are hampering the efforts.

The group was among 8 to 10 boats that had ventured out to sea early Tuesday morning. The ill-fated boat set out around 6 am but turned back as the weather deteriorated. As they approached the Gangolli estuary gate, a sudden gust of wind caused the boat to capsize.

One fisherman fell overboard, prompting two others to jump in to rescue him. Tragically, all three were swept away. Only Santosh was saved, while poor weather has made ongoing rescue efforts extremely challenging.
