Mangalore, Sep 21, 2013: The two youth who have been convicted in the case of gang rape of a minor Odisha girl in a stationed train in Mangalore Central Railway Station, have been sentenced to life by the fourth Additional District and Sessions Court on September 21, Saturday.
Judge BJ Naik who pronounced the judgement, has also imposed a penalty of Rs 25000 on the duo who will have to undergo an additional imprisonment of two more years if they fail to pay the fine amount. The convicts are Nishit A, a mechanical helper in Southern Railway and K Ashok, an employee of a railway contractor. The court however has acquitted Abdul Sattar Ayub, a tea vendor at the railway station for want of evidences.
The police are still on the look out for the prime accused Shameesh who was a porter and sweeper and hails from Payyanur.
The 15 year old girl from Odisha who was at the station after she escaped from her employer’s house, was taken by the four to a stationed train, on the pretext of guiding her to a train to Goa. The girl was found in a semi-conscious state and was counseled by the Child Helpline staff when the rape case came to light.
The statement of the victim girl and forensic evidences helped in proving the charges. The court while noting that Shameesh and Ashok had raped the girl, stated that Nishit too was equally responsible as he was at the spot of the crime.
