Ganeshotsava: Tight security arrangements in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi

Mangaluru, September 14, 2026: The police departments in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have made extensive security arrangements to ensure the peaceful celebration of Ganeshotsava and prevent any untoward incidents.

Thousands of police personnel have been deployed across the two districts, with precautionary measures in place and heightened surveillance maintained along sensitive routes and in vulnerable areas.

In Udupi district, a total of 492 Ganesh idols are scheduled to be installed and immersed. From a security perspective, 415 locations have been classified as normal, 74 as sensitive and three as highly sensitive.

As part of efforts to maintain law and order, Udupi police have conducted 22 peace committee meetings. Preventive action has been taken against 611 people, while 487 individuals have been made to execute bonds under various laws as a precautionary measure.

Within the Dakshina Kannada district police limits, 230 public Ganeshotsava idol installation programmes are scheduled to be held.

The Belthangady subdivision will see the highest number, with 103 installations. These include 25 in Belthangady, 20 in Dharmasthala, 20 in Venoor, 18 in Uppinangady, 13 in Kadaba and seven in Punjalakatte.

The Puttur subdivision will have a total of 79 installations, including 18 in Bellare, 17 each in Puttur Rural and Sullia, 16 in Puttur city and 11 in Subrahmanya.

In the Bantwal subdivision, preparations are underway for 48 Ganeshotsava installations — 20 in Vittal, 16 in Bantwal Rural and 12 in Bantwal city.

Udupi district police have appealed to organisers to conduct Ganesh idol immersions only along officially designated routes and at approved locations. Organisers have also been instructed to strictly follow all directions issued by the authorities.

The police have urged the public and organisers to cooperate to ensure that Ganeshotsava processions do not cause traffic disruptions. They have also warned against raising provocative slogans or engaging in any activity that could disturb communal harmony or violate the law.
